Research: Latin America 22m digital cable subs in 2015
October 13, 2010
NexTV Dataxis notes that in 2010 there were already 6.9 million Digital Cable subscribers in Latin America, with the basis of Digital Cable subscribers in the region had increased by nearly 14 times since 2005.
NexTV Dataxis forecasts that by 2015 there would be 22 million Digital Cable subscribers in Latin America, a figure that would be equivalent to 27 per cent of the total Pay TV subscribers forecast by then. Digital Cable would then be the second largest choice of Pay TV technology in Latin America, only behind Satellite TV (DTH).
NexTV Dataxis analyzed that some of the major cable systems in the region have opted for digitization via proprietary systems, mainly Motorola. However, digitization through DVB-type variants had gained some scope, especially in Brazil. By 2015, the division of Digital Cable subscribers is forecast close to be 75 per cent for proprietary variants and 25 per cent for DVB.
