Time Warner Cable 'leapfrongs' DVR
October 7, 2009
Time Warner Cable is launching Enhanced TV a PVR-catch up type service which has features that allows customers to watch shows without planning ahead, Chief Strategy Officer Peter Stern said. Subscribers can restart programmes if they missed the beginning, watch shows up to three days after the air date, and eventually view programmes older than three days.
"It's leapfrogging over the DVR," Stern, said, "the competition's not doing this." He said the new features also may persuade customers to keep watching cable instead of switching to the Internet for shows. Time Warner Cable found 80 percent of people who watch on the Web do so to catch up on missed programmes.
