Spanish under fire again for breaking ad limits
June 25, 2015
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Spanish regulator CNMC has imposed a €229,136 fine on Mediaset, owner of Tele 5 and Cuatro among other channels, for violating the law on advertising content. The watchdog has also started legal proceedings against the other large private-TV group Atresmedia, owner of Antena 3 and La Sexta.
The Mediaset infringements took place on Telecinco and Cuatro and ran counter to the General Law of Audiovisual Communication which limits commercial airtime for advertising and teleshopping to 12 minutes per calendar hour.
Concerning Atresmedia, the CNMC has started proceedings as two of its channels La Sexta and Nova also exceeded the maximun advertising airtime permitted in January 2015.
