Japan’s public broadcaster NHK is making available much of its NHK World International service available On Demand. The service, entirely in English, will open for availability on June 15th and is free to users.

NHK says the service will start with 13 programmes mainly transmitted within the past one week or two as a way to catch up with programs viewers may have missed. Major debate programmes and travel programmes containing useful information for visitors to Japan will stay for longer periods.

The VoD line-up of programmes will steadily be expanded, as soon as clearances of are obtained as to rights of usage by NHK.

Many of the programmes are extremely popular in Japan, and include ‘Science View’, ‘Core Kyoto’, ‘Tokyo Eye’, ‘Dining with the Chef’, ‘Asia Insight’, etc.
