Orange plans 4K STB for 2016

From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris
Orange will launch a new STB with 4K compatibility in 2016, and the box will not use the Android but a home grown system.
Speaking at the presentation of its ‘Essentials2020’ strategic plan in Paris this week, CEO Stéphane Richard said: “4K content is not abundant enough yet and the 4K TV set market share is still under 1 per cent in France. 4K is not a market one can profit from now, but it is definitely part of Orange’s roadmap by 2016.”
Last week rival operator Free announced the launch of its ‘Freebox mini 4K’, the first Ultra HD set-top box to run Android TV.
