Time-Warner Cable SportsNet testing 4K

Time-Warner’s SportsNet has been testing 4K/UHD ‘proof of concept’ transmissions. Two broadcasts have been tested, a high-school football game and a regular NBA match held at the Los Angeles Staples Centre just before Christmas.
Both events were wholly 4K, from “soup to nuts” according to Robby Greene, president of IMS Productions, the Indianapolis-based mobile production company, and quoted by trade mag TV Technology. IMS provided trucks and systems integration. “It was a well-organised plan with good partners. A lot of people worked very hard to get it ready and that paid off.”
The transmissions used equipment from Sony, Canon, Cisco, Adtek, ChryonHego amongst others. Sony’s F55 Ultra-HD cameras were used for both events. The 4K/60fps 10 bit signal was decoded by a Cisco set-top box and shown to a group of T-W executives.
