Game of Thrones, Walking Dead most pirated shows

Media protection, multiscreen and revenue assurance solutions specialist Irdeto has released findings that suggest Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Homeland are the most pirated TV shows outside the UK, with Game of Thrones by far in the lead.
Analysing Torrents collected and tracked by Irdeto’s Business Intelligence unit from over 100 top Torrent Index sites across the globe between January and February 2014, the download data collected from peers sharing these files shows that illegal downloads of Game of Thrones internationally reached over 1.4 million – almost 50 per cent more than any other title.
Irdeto suggests that as premières are advertised and new series of these hit shows begin, it is clear that those who either don’t subscribe to the appropriate channels or platforms, or those who simply cannot wait for the scheduled programming to begin, are looking at alternative means of viewing. The Walking Dead, the second most popular show for illegal downloads, is followed by hit shows such as Homeland, Breaking Bad and Dexter and other key titles for the main broadcasters across the globe.
Other report findings include:
- The Walking Dead and Homeland together accounted for 30 per cent of all downloads
- The top three shows are followed by Breaking Bad, Dexter, Girls and House of Cards amongst others
- Brazil and Spain have the highest illegal P2P download activity outside the UK
