Time Warner buying Turkey’s ATV?
April 12, 2013
Time Warner is reportedly the front runner to buy Turkey’s ATV broadcasting unit from Calik Holdings. A final decision could emerge towards the end of this month.
ATV is a nationwide network and has been owned by Calik since 2007, headquartered in Istanbul. It was launched in 1993 by the giant Sabah conglomerate.
However, other players are still said to be interested including Dubai-based Abraaj Capital. News Corp is said to have dropped out of the bidding some months ago.
Time Warner has been enthusiastic about the Turkish market for some time and joint-ventured its CNN-Turk channel (with Dogan Media) in 1999.
