Weather Channel wins during Sandy
October 31, 2012
By Chris Forrester
Hurricane Sandy generated more than a half-billion page views during Monday’s bad weather in the USA. It came from some 450 million page views on the channel’s various mobile and on-line sites, as well as another 298 million page views on Weather.com, a sister-site.
The numbers were records for the channel, and were double those generated by Hurricane Irene in August 2011. Indeed, yesterday’s (Tuesday) numbers are not yet in and might even beat Monday’s records.
The channel itself also had huge viewing figures, as well as 9.6 million live video streams on weather.com, hitting a peak of a concurrent 167,000 users at one time.
