CSA OKs Canal Plus shutting TPS Star
April 19, 2012
French broadcasting authority CSA has given its permission to Canal Plus to stop broadcasting the TPS Star channel on DTT. The channel was already withdrawn from ADSL, cable and satellite on April 4th, and has fewer than 10,000 DTT subscribers.
CSA’s Francoise Laborde said Canal Plus has prepared a satisfactory alternative for TPS Star DTT subscribers. However TPS Star will continue to be broadcast in Reunion until its contract comes to term at the end of the year, Canal Plus said.
The broadcaster is pulling TPS Star because it is making heavy losses and to comply with a rule setting the maximum number of DTT channels a group can own at seven. The purchase of Direct 8 and Direct Star would take Canal Plus over the maximum.
