Live sport on YouTube
February 27, 2012
Sports specialist Perform is to launch its first YouTube channel, bringing live, long-form sports content to the platform. Perform will bring a channel dedicated to coverage from its livesport.tv and goal.com brands so sport from European football coverage to darts and snooker will be on YouTube from next month.
The details of what live matches will air on the channel are still to be confirmed, although there will be a mix of free and pay-per-view options. YouTube will sell ads around the free content, while Perform will gain any ancillary revenue generated via the pay-per-view model.
Perform has also developed over 20 apps for Google’s Chrome web store for its clients, which include Chelsea Football Club and the Women’s Tennis Association. YouTube has been on the lookout for securing further sports rights since last year as it builds up original and dedicated content on the platform.
