A UK family has been paid £100,000 (€117,000) by YouTube after a family video went viral. Howard Davies-Carr is the dad of Charlie and Harry — who became famous through the “Charlie bit my finger – again!” video originally made for their godfather. Since Davies-Carr posted the clip on the file-sharing website it has been viewed 386 million times.

The deal is a type of partnership that sees YouTube split revenue from advertising running alongside videos with users.

In the US, users are said to make six-figure sums from the deals, and several Brits are thought to be earning more than £6,000 a year. But the Google-owned website, which has a method of predicting what will be a hit, provides “no guarantees” on how much a partner will make.
