Netflix secures Borgias for US
September 28, 2011
Netflix, the Internet subscription service for TV shows and movies, has secured the rights for the North-American premiere of Tom Fontana’s Borgia series. The distributor Beta Film/Munich has confirmed that Borgia will be given its first US showing on the VoD provider, which has over 25 million subscribers in the US, Canada and Latin America.
“Video on Demand now plays a substantial role within the value chain of premium content,” says Beta Film’s Eric Welbers “In the US, VoD platforms such as Netflix have become market players on a par with the majors and, for us, an ideal partner for the first airing.”
With its $30 million budget, Borgia is one of the most expensive European series of all time.
