“Germ-free” remote control on offer

It is not an April Fool story, but a true report from DirecTV in the USA. The DTH operator is offering hotels which take its new ‘Residential Experience’ service a supply of the industry’s first ‘anti-microbial’ zapper.
As well as the germ-free units, hotels buying into the DirecTV offer will get 100 HDTV channels, a dedicated EPG as well as the full residential programming offering.
DirecTV’s concept addresses the problem that travellers want the same full service offering they enjoy at home – and the sanitised remote control helps the overall package. The service will launch this summer.
