Musk: “Starlink to double speeds”

Elon Musk says download transmission rates on his mega-constellation of Starlink satellites will double to around 300 Mb/s later this year.
Musk, in a Tweet, added that signal latency will also improve to around 20 milliseconds.
He also said that Starlink coverage will reach subscribers around “most” of the planet by the end of this year and achieve global coverage by 2022.
Musk was responding to a customer who showed a series of ‘Speedtests’ which ranged between 77-130 Mb/s. Musk stressed that Starlink was intended for customers in “low to medium population density areas”. He added that cellular coverage in urban areas would “always” have the advantage.
Astrophysicist Jonathan McDowell (from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics) and a close observer of Musk’s Starlink fleet says that the constellation now has 1064 working satellites in orbit. A total of 1145 have been launched but some have either been deliberately de-orbited or have failed.
