France’s Canal+ is said to be negotiating exclusive distribution for Disney’s soon to launch SVoD service Disney+.

Potentially launching in spring 2020, Disney+ would be a pay channel option on the Canal+ platform but would also be bundled with premium packages and so it would be available for a small premium to all subscribers. Canal+ already distributes Disney’s movies and pay-TV channels under the deal. Disney Cinéma is already offered as part of Canal+’s Ciné/Séries pack.

The negotiations were reported in La Lettre A digital news. Canal+ has in recent months repositioned itself as an aggregator of third-party streaming services – there’s already deals with Apple and Netflix – alongside its own pay-TV channels. Any Disney deal would exclude France’s main ISPs Orange, Free and SFR although Disney + would still be available via a D2C app.

Disney+ launches in the US, Canada and The Netherlands on November 12th.
