Real Madrid TV goes to the cinema to find viewers
February 6, 2019
From David Del Valle in Madrid
In an unprecedented move, Spain’s Real Madrid TV is now relying on the cinema to raise its audience share.
Currently, the Real Madrid-dedicated TV channel is at the bottom of the DTT audience with a share of 0.3 per cent (in January) and barely 30,000 viewers on average.
With exclusive titles such as Luna de Miel and El pequeño Ángel hitting theatres, Real Madrid TV aims to pull in more revenue via cinema-goers.
The channel is also seeking another TV partner as its present contract with Mediapro will come to an end in March. Real Madrid aims to reduce the €195 million that is paying annually to Mediapro. Telefónica, Mediaset and Atresmedia are the most likely partners.
