South Korea electronics giant LG Display has confirmed it will expand an OLED production facility in Guangzhou, China and able to produce 130,000 plates per month which are then sliced into panels.

Kang In Byeong, LG Display’s chief technology officer, said the application to expand the factory was with the Chinese authorities but that permission was expected soon.

Another facility north of Seoul will probably make OLEDs as well, while LG is winning orders to make screens for premium carmakers for models next year, Kang added.

LG Display’s high-end OLED screens are used in TVs and Apple and Samsung’s top-end ‘smart’ phones.

LG is on record as saying that it would double its OLED output by 2020, and make up 40 per cent of sales.
