South African viewers to MultiChoice’s M-Net analogue transmissions are being urged to upgrade to a more modern digital set-top box. The broadcaster says it will end analogue transmissions at the end of March.

Viewers can then select whether to go for a GOtv terrestrial decoder or opt for a satellite signal to DStv services.

South Africa is in the process of switching over to digital transmission, and MultiChoice says it can no longer support the legacy M-Net boxes.  MultiChoice says that it has been alerting subscribers for the past 3 years to switch to digital, but inevitably some people still remain on the old system.

MultiChoice says there need be no cost to viewers, as it will fund the new equipment. The broadcaster is now scrolling a text message across the bottom of the screen to warn viewers of the impending changes
