Netflix axes Girlboss
June 26, 2017
Netflix has continued its axing spree by cancelling Girlboss after just one season.
The comedy-drama, inspired by the rags-to-riches true-life story of Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso, received mixed reviews when it debuted in April. Critics condemned the series for largely glorifying Amoruso, despite the brand mogul being the target of a series of lawsuits in recent years for the alleged poor treatment of her employees.
Girlboss marks the fourth high-profile Netflix cancellation in the last couple of months, following the axing of Sense8, The Get Down and Bloodline. CEO Reed Hastings recently said that the streaming service’s hit ratio was “too high” and that they should start becoming more ruthless when it comes to underperforming content.
