Italian broadband operator Fastweb will provide 1 Gbps connectivity on the FTTH network in 30 Italian cities.

The service has just launched in Milan, to be followed by Turin and Bologna. Starting from 2017, the following cities will also be covered: Ancona, Bari, Bergamo, Brescia, Catania, Florence, Genoa, Messina, Modena, Monza, Naples, Rome, Padua, Palermo, Parma, Prato, Perugia, Pescara, Reggio Calabria, Reggio Emilia, Salerno, Siena, Trento, Trieste, Venice, Verona and Vicenza.

By 2020, thanks also to Flash Fiber, the joint venture created together with operator Tim (Telecom Italia), Fastweb FTTH footprint will cover 5 million households.

Fastweb has also decided to extend its FTTC network to cover 8 million households and businesses by 2020, reaching download speeds up to 200 Mbps.

The new FastGate router will be introduced in January which will allow 1 Gbps internet access also through Wi-Fi.

In addition, the operator continues to develop WOW FI, the largest Wi-Fi community in Italy, with some 1.5 million customers in over 800 municipalities.

Furthermore Fastweb will extend the quality of its wireline network to the mobile environment, thanks to the deployment of a 5G ready network based on small cells.
