March 26, 2026
Banijay Productions Germany is expanding its work in the development of microdrama formats and has already produced its first project. The news was unveiled at Series Mania in Lille, where Banijay Entertainment presented its latest scripted slate.
The as-yet-untitled project comprises of 28 episodes and features a cast of eight well-known German creators, with a combined reach of more than 33 million followers. Designed in collaboration with creators from the outset, the series builds on Banijay Productions Germany’s experience in digital-talent partnerships, with formats like Mission Unknown for Prime Video, and collaborations with creators like SelfieSandra, where content and distribution are developed in tandem.
The debut project is led by Executive Producer Imke Runde, who, together with her team, has delivered a standalone microdrama in the scripted space. The project brings together Banijay Productions Germany’s entertainment and creator-driven expertise with Runde’s extensive scripted experience which includes Verklag mich doch! (Vox), Richterin Barbara Salesch (SAT1), Staatsanwalt Posch ermittelt (RTL), Das Strafgericht (RTL), Typisch Pubertät! (RTL), Hilf mir doch! (Vox) and Patchwork Family (SAT1).
Katrin Stefanović, Managing Director of Banijay Productions Germany, commented: “Through platforms and mobile usage, narrative forms and viewing habits are shifting rapidly. Microdramas offer an exciting space to experiment with new formats and distribution models. As a forward-facing company, we feel it’s important to shape trends and by combining our expertise with Imke’s, we have created a debut to demonstrate how impactful creator-led, mobile-first storytelling can be.”
Banijay Productions Germany’s move aligns with wider group momentum in the microdrama space, including recent expansion in the Americas, where Endemol Shine Brasil and A Fábrica have partnered to create a slate of vertical-format microdramas, leveraging Endemol Shine Brasil’s production leadership and A Fábrica’s scripted expertise to serve mobilefirst audiences a brand ecosystem. Meanwhile, yesterday it was also announced Banijay Finland has been commissioned by Yle to produce a 20 x 5 series, Survival Sisters, to run across the broadcaster’s streaming and social media platforms, and Banijay Iberia is developing three projects in the space.
