Wilson joins Clearbox as Executive Director

Communications consultancy Clearbox has announced that former UTV Managing Director Michael Wilson has joined its team as Executive Director in a significant strategic move aimed at meeting growing demand for broadcast-quality content and executive-level communications counsel.
Wilson brings nearly 30 years of senior media experience from UTV, ITV and Sky News, plus strategic advisory credentials as former CEO of the Isle of Man Government’s Media Investment business.
His main focus will be to fuel Clearbox’s ambition to become the go-to communications agency for video-first content creation, podcast development, and C-suite communications advisory for clients in the UK, Ireland and across Europe.
The appointment reflects a fundamental shift in how businesses communicate. With 82% of internet traffic now video-based and podcasts reaching 28 million UK listeners monthly, organisations need communications partners who understand both traditional newsroom dynamics and emerging digital platforms and people who know what makes stories resonate in today’s attention economy.

Wilson’s career spans leadership roles across broadcast and digital media, including:
- Managing Director, UTV – overseeing regional broadcasting operations, news and programming.
- Senior roles at ITV and Sky News – navigating national news agendas.
- CEO, Isle of Man Government Media Investment Agency – strategic advisory at government level.
- Consultancy – working on major channel launches and strategic comms advice for high profile companies and individuals.
This combination of newsroom and content knowledge, commercial acumen and C-suite advisory makes Wilson uniquely positioned to guide Clearbox clients through complex reputation challenges, media crises, and digital transformation.
