June 12, 2025

Roku has announced that James Kelm will join the company as Vice President of Product, Advertising and Media. Kelm will be responsible for driving innovation in ad technology, enhancing audience targeting and measurement, and driving the evolution of streaming ad formats to maximise engagement and revenue. He will report to Mustafa Ozgen, President, Devices, Product and Technology, and be based in San Jose, California.

Kelm joins Roku from Nextdoor, where he was Chief Product Officer, overseeing Nextdoor’s product management and research teams. Prior to Nextdoor, he was Vice President of Product Management at Twitter. Kelm led multiple product areas at Twitter, including self-service revenue products, organic business features, Twitter for Professionals, and Twitter Shopping.

Before Twitter, Kelm built and scaled native and video ads syndication at Yahoo and led product, marketing and developer outreach for Flurry Analytics. He began his product experience as a product planner at Apple before moving into product management at Google, where he worked on Google Shopping and mobile AdSense.

“We are excited to welcome James Kelm to the Roku team,” said Ozgen. “His deep ad tech expertise and proven track record of driving innovation make him the ideal leader to advance our ad product strategy. With a strong focus on viewers, advertisers, and partners, James will help us accelerate growth, deliver more impactful media experiences, and execute our long-term vision with even greater impact.”

“I’ve long admired how Roku builds the entire ecosystem, including hardware, OS, content, and user experience, to deliver an exceptional experience for consumers,” added Kelm. “This kind of fully integrated approach enables more relevant, scalable, and measurable advertising experiences. I’m looking forward to joining this innovative team and helping drive the future of our media business together.”
