RTL Belgium, the largest media company serving French-speaking Belgium, has joined antipiracy coalition the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), fortifying the fight against copyright infringement in Europe.
As Belgium continues to face significant challenges related to online piracy and the rise of illegal IPTV services, joining ACE enables RTL to unite forces with global leaders in the fight against content theft. This collaboration strengthens RTL’s ability to address piracy at scale, enforce its rights more effectively, and contribute to industry-wide efforts to disrupt criminal networks that undermine the sustainability of legitimate media services in Belgium and across Europe.
“By signing on to ACE’s path-breaking efforts to protect content, RTL Belgium is strengthening the global movement to detect, disrupt, and dismantle digital piracy,” said Charles Rivkin, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association and Chairman of ACE. “ACE’s broad membership across Europe is absolutely essential to our efforts to defend the rights of creators and the safety of audiences anywhere – and with RTL Belgium on-board, we can get closer to realising a future where innovation is safeguarded, storytelling is respected, and the creative marketplace can truly flourish.”
“Joining the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment is a natural step in our commitment to protecting the value of creative work and ensuring a sustainable media ecosystem,” added Guillaume Collard, CEO of RTL Belgium. “As a leading media company in Belgium, we believe it is our responsibility to actively combat piracy and contribute to global efforts that safeguard innovation, talent, and fair competition.”
Established in 1955 as a radio network, RTL Belgium has long held a leading position in the Belgian media landscape. As the first major private broadcaster to compete with public television in Belgium, RTL Belgium quickly became a household name with flagship channels such as RTL tvi, RTL club, and RTL plug. With a strong focus on local news, entertainment, and original productions, RTL Belgium has consistently ranked among the most-watched television networks in the country.
RTL Belgium becomes the 56th company to join ACE since the coalition was formed in 2017.
