NBCU channel spin-off named Versant
May 7, 2025
Versant will be the name of the parent company for the cable networks and other assorted media assets that will be spun off from NBCUniversal and Comcast later this year. The news was confirmed by Mark Lazarus, CEO of the new company, in a memo to staff.
“We would be foolish to expect everyone to love the name of our new company immediately. There were certainly some others that we could have gotten behind, but after sitting with VERSANT for a couple of weeks now, I believe it will suit us well, evoke a sense of energy, and underscore our role in driving progress,” Lazarus in the memo.
Versant will be the home of TV networks including MSNBC, CNBC, SyFy, Golf Channel, USA and E! along with other media properties such as Rotten Tomatoes. The assets held by the new company generated about $7 billion in revenue in 2024.
Speaking to CNBC, Lazarus said there are no plans to launch a Versant streaming service
