Mediapro launches Offline Subtitling Platform
November 8, 2024
Mediasur, a Mediapro company specialising in the accessibility of audiovisual content, has announced the launch of its new Offline Subtitling Platform. The automatic captioning and subtitling product – which combines Artificial Intelligence (AI) and human supervision – has achieved productivity gains of up to 60 per cent in a testing phase.
This initiative arose in response to the growing demand for subtitling services in the audiovisual sector, and has been developed by Mediapro’s AI Center, part of Innovation Area. The platform is provided for use by Mediasur’s 60 staff dedicated to providing captioning and subtitling services.
The Offline Subtitling Platform is based on Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure and combines transcription models with synchronisation and linguistic segmentation capabilities, complying with the best practices and editorial criteria set out in UNE 153010:2012 (the Spanish standard on requirements and recommendations for the presentation of subtitles for deaf and hard-of-hearing people).
The platform already makes it possible to auto-generate subtitles in Spanish, Catalan, English and French, however the infrastructure can be scaled up to include additional languages and co-official languages, such as Galician and Basque.
The implementation of the platform has allowed Mediasur to achieve three key objectives: improve efficiency in offline subtitling processes, be able to handle various types of audiovisual content, and optimise staff collaboration across a centralised platform.
Mediasur is now working on adapting the platform to also provide subtitling for live content.
