SpaceX is taking over a facility in Long Beach, south of Los Angeles, that was once used by rocket-launching enterprise Sea Launch to assemble its cargoes and moor its rocket platform. Sea Launch went bust in 2009. .
Officials at the Port of Long Beach say they have approved a scheme for SpaceX to move into a 6.5-acre marine terminal which will be used by Elon Musk’s recovery vessels.
Musk and SpaceX have been using a waterfront site up the coast at Los Angeles up until now for its West Coast launches from Vandenburg Airforce Base. SpaceX will move into Long Beach this on May 1st.
Musk will be in good company given that also based at Long Beach is Virgin Orbit and rocket company Relativity Space.
