Disney’s adaptation of Artemis Fowl, the first in a series of fantasy novels by Eoin Colfer, is set to forego a cinema release and debut straight on the Disney+ streaming platform.
The movie had been scheduled to land in cinemas on May 29th, but with most screens closed all around the globe as a result of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, that date was up in the air. It’s currently unknown if the movie will adhere to the original release date for its Disney+ debut.
Ricky Strauss, President, Content & Marketing, Disney+ commented: “With audiences largely unable to attend theatres in the current environment, we are thrilled to offer the premiere of Artemis Fowl on Disney+. Director Kenneth Branagh and his spectacular cast take viewers right into the vibrant, fantasy world of the beloved book, which fans have been waiting to see brought to life onscreen for years. It’s great family entertainment that is the perfect addition to Disney+’s summer lineup.”

The movie stars the likes of Judi Dench, Colin Farrell and Josh Gad, and had a reported production budget of $125 million.
