Samsung halts Blu-ray player production
February 19, 2019
Electronics giant Samsung has announced it is ceasing production of Blu-ray players, and has completely axed plans to release a new high-end 4K model later this year.
The news follows reports that recent box office hits such as The Favourite and Stan & Ollie will skip UHD home releases completely.
“Samsung will no longer introduce new Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray player models in the US market,” Samsung confirmed to CNET.
The move signals further signs of the death of physical media as consumers continue to shift to streaming services.
