Nintendo drops streaming support on Wii

Gaming giant Nintendo has announced that all its Wii console owners who use the system to watch streaming apps – including Netflix – will no longer be able to do so come January 2019.
An email sent out to customers read: “Unfortunately, Nintendo will suspend all video streaming services on Wii—including the Netflix Channel. We hope you’ll soon enjoy an even better Netflix experience with additional features on a supported device.”
It’s been nearly 12 years since Nintendo first released the Wii console, so the news isn’t overly alarming. However, the fact that the Netflix app is yet to be available on its latest Switch console is somewhat of a surprise. There are currently no hints as to when/if the service will launch on the popular, portable console.
