Spain: Pay-TV up, DTT down

Significant pay-TV growth (631,000 new subscribers in a year) is having a negative impact on FTA DTT in Spain. According to the CNMC, FTA DTT consumption fell to a record low of 76.6 per cent to March 2018 with pay TV making 20.6 per cent.
DTT viewership has dropped by over 6 per cent from the 82.7 per cent in 2014.
At the end of the first quarter this year, pay-TV had 6.72 million subscribers, up 10.4 per cent year-on-year and a net gain of 137,000 in the quarter.
Pay-TV managed increased its revenues by 6 per cent to €556.6 million whereas FTA TV had €427.5 million revenues, down 4.8 per cent. Total ad revenues amounted to €437.7 million, €415.3 million corresponding to FTA and €22.4 million to pay-TV.
