Mediapro to appeal Court’s Serie A decision
May 11, 2018
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Mediapro, the Spanish TV company, has confirmed it will appeal against the Milan Court’s decision to cancel its tender to sell the Italy’s Serie A football TV rights.
Contrary to the alleged breach of competition rules, Mediapro believes that its commercial proposal meets the Serie A criteria. The company argues that its offer to operators does not include “editorial content” as reported by the Court, and it also defends its right to sell advertising.
The tender had already been suspended in mid-April after Sky Italia had requested the Court investigated whether the sale respected Italian regulation.
In February, Italy’s Serie A football league had accepted Mediapro’s offer for the rights to broadcast the near-400 matches of the 2018-2021 seasons at just above €1.05 billion.
