World Cup remains FTA in Spain
December 4, 2017
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Mediaset Spain, operator of Tele 5 and Cuatro, has acquired the TV rights to the Football World Cup 2018 to broadcast all 64 matches FTA in the country.
Mediaset also aired matches from the previous World Cups in 2010 and 2014.
Mediaset made a bid for all the 64 matches – not just the 27 put on sale by FIFA. Numbers about the total cost of the operation have not been revealed although FIFA wanted at least €35 million for the 27 matches.
