EU greenlights De Agostini-Viacom JV
August 24, 2017
From Branislav Pekic in Rome
The European Commission has given its go-ahead to Italy’s De Agostini Editore and Viacom International Media Networks Italia for the joint control of DeA Broadcast.
The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns because DeA Broadcast has negligible actual and foreseen activities within the EEA. Moreover, there are only very limited overlaps between the companies’ activities.
The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
DeA Broadcast will develop a thematic channel for children and its related website.
DeA Broadcast, recently set up by Italian publishing and media group DeA Editore, produces free-to-air childrens’ channel Super!, available on both DTT and satellite (on the Sky Italian and TivùSat platforms).
