Spain: Pay-TV subs top 6m

For the first time, pay-TV in Spain has surpassed the 6 million subscribers mark, according to the latest report from Spain’s competition watchdog Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC).
In the third quarter of 2016, pay-TV reached 6,006,326 subs, up almost 600,000 more than the previous quarter with 5,430,887. IPTV claimed the most, with 3.3 million, followed by cable with 1.48 million and satellite 952,579.
Subscribers to converged packages were over 5 million, with 4.5 million enjoying a five services package with fixed and mobile telephony, fixed and mobile bandwidth and pay-TV.
By operators, Movistar takes the lion’s share with 3.71 million pay-TV subscribers, followed by Vodafone with 1.2 million and Orange with 462,000.
