Vladimir Evdokimov, arrested in December on charges of embezzling more than $3 million (200 million Rubels) from the Russian Aircraft Corporations’ MiG aerospace company, was found dead in his cell in a Russian prison on March 17th. He had reportedly been stabbed while being held at Moscow pre-trial detention centre.
Prior to his arrest, Evdokimov was Chief Operation Officer at Russian space agency Roscosmos.
A report from Moscow’s Sputnik news agency said: “Earlier in the day, Yulia Ivanova, the Russian Investigative Committee’s Central Moscow Department spokeswoman, told Sputnik that a body of a man, born in 1965, was found with stab wounds on his chest.”
Roscosmos put out a press release saying: “Roscosmos announces with regret the death of Vladimir Evdokimov, the state corporation’s executive director for quality control.”
