In a move to boost pay-TV subscriptions to Movistar Plus, Telefonica has launched its Screen Fusion campaign to give its customers free smart TVs with offer access to only its own pay-TV platform.
From December 14th, new subscribers to the Movistar Fusion+ 300Mbps fibre service will be able to choose between a 32” TV set for free or a 40” for €120, both produced by Vestel. Existing Fusion+ 300Mbps fibre subscribers will have to pay €50 for the smallest model and €170 for the largest. The company will initially launch 25,000 units.
The ‘Screen Fusion’ TVs are blocked with a Movistar interface and only work for Movistar Plus content, which includes all free-to-air DTT channels as well as Movistar and Canal+ pay-TV programming among its 80 channels. There is no permanence clause, that is to say subscribers can return the TVs without penalties at any time.
The president of Telefonica Spain, Luis Miguel Gilperez, pointed out: “In Spain, there are over four million pay-TV subscribers with access to premium content and high quality television, which includes new features like multiscreen, DVR or catch-up. From now on, everything will also be included in a new screen with an integrated STB which comes to complement other offers like the one we have with Samsung’s smart TVs”.
