Multichoice’s DStv division in Zimbabwe has had to drop two BBC-compiled channels, BBC First and BBC Earth. A DStv Zimbabwe spokesperson used local press to apologise to viewers but said the two channels were too expensive, and that DStv had been forced to make a tough commercial decision to drop them from the DStv bouquet.
Elizabeth Dziva, spokesperson for DStv Zimbabwe said some of the more popular programmes carried on the channels (including Top Gear and Dragons Den) have been shifted to BBC Brit or BBC Lifestyle, which stay on air.
CBeebies also stays on the DStv bundle, although BBC Knowledge has also closed for Zimbabwe with sources saying the channel was not popular with viewers.
