The news that FashionOne has now launched in Europe as well as over North America and South America on SES satellites ups the total number of Ultra-HD channels either on air or shortly to launch over Europe .
New York-based Fashion 4K is now transmitting from SES’s 19.2 degrees slot reaching 116 million potential homes – or perhaps more accurately the few million or so who have suitable 4K receivers.
Other UHD channels on air or testing include Canal Plus, while German shopping channel Pearl TV is likely to launch at IFA in Berlin, also at IFA ARD affiliate Hessischer Rundfunk debuts Ultra HD on Eutelsat Hot Bird, and SES and Eutlesat have their HD+ ‘demo’ channels on air.
Sky Deutschland has reserved capacity with SES, while it is understood that a Scandinavian broadcaster has also taken capacity for a 4K service. Another general entertainment 4K channel is expected to make an announcement at MIPCOM on October 5th.
