Miller quits as Culture Secretary

Maria Miller – as surprise appointment when she was named as the UK’s Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport following a cabinet reshuffle in 2012 – has resigned in the wake of an expenses scandal.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, she said the controversy had become a distraction from the vital work the government was doing. The Prime Minister said he hoped she would be able to return to cabinet “in due course”.
Conservative MP Sajid Javid has been named as Miller’s replacement, in a promotion from his current role as Financial Secretary to the Treasury.
His background prior to entering parliament in 2010 was in banking.
