Netflix on Sky Deutschland? ‘Never say never’
September 16, 2013

With OTT service Netflix agreeing a pay-TV first with Virgin Media to be carried as an app on the UK cable operator’s TiVo cable service, the prospect of other platforms welcoming a competitor has not been discounted by a senior executive at Sky Deutschland.
Speaking at an IBC media event hosted by Cisco, Gerry Duffy, SVP of technology, described OTT as an opportunity for players such as Sky Deutschland, allowing them to make a name as innovators, but warned “don’t let someone in to steal your lunch”.
Pointing to the success of Sky Deutschland’s own NOW OTT service, Duffy nevertheless admitted when asked whether this meant that Netflix was unlikely to be invited onto Sky Deutschland, that you should “never say never,” with such cases being assessed on their merits.
