DirecTV, Avantel deny Azteca merger
February 18, 2013
Executives of Colombian telecommunications firms DirecTV and Avantel have shot down rumours of a potential merger with TV Azteca.
In an interview, DirecTV Colombia’s VP of field operations, Andrés Solé, dismissed the rumours, saying: “All companies in this market speak to each other, which is a reasonable thing to do, but there hasn’t been anything put forward, we don’t have any agreement with TV Azteca or anyone else.”
Meanwhile, Avantel says everything will depend on the terms of the upcoming 4G spectrum auction, but added that the company has not yet spoken of any alliance with other firms.
