Tele 5 must pay €3.6m fine

From David Del Valle in Madrid
Mediaset-owned TV channel Tele 5 will have to pay a €3.6 million fine following the Spanish Court Audiencia Nacional’s ruling that the fine imposed by the competition authority CNC over the merger Tele 5-Cuatro should stand.
The CNC had imposed that fine after Tele 5 failed to meet a deadline to hand in to the competition watchdog a detailed report about the merger operation with Cuatro.
Tele 5 has confirmed that it will take the case to the Supreme Court. The channel is also currently involved in a tough battle with its rival Antena 3 over programming with both claiming that the other party is breaking the law concerning broadcasting inappropriate content for children during protected slots of the day.
