Xbox TV still scheduled for this year
September 19, 2011
Microsoft is still hopeful of releasing Xbox Live TV before the year is through, Steve Ballmer, the company’s CEO has said.
Balmer told a developer’s conference that, although the service continues to be in the planning stages, hopes are still high for a 2011 launch. He said: “Having all of that content is right on, it’s fantastic, but it brings a new challenge with it. Certainly we all know the frustrations of using guides and menus and controllers, and we think a better way to do all of this is simply to bring Bing and voice to Xbox. You say it, Xbox finds it.”
Ballmer added that Microsoft continues to work with “dozens or hundreds of additional video content suppliers” to enhance a product that will include ESPN, Hulu and Netflix.
A new Xbox Live dashboard will be released later this year, but it isn’t known if the television service will be part of this.
