Despite previous reports linking Eutelsat with Canada’s Telesat, the Paris-based satellite operator confirmed Dec mber14 that it had no interest in acquiring Telesat. A Eutelsat spokeswoman repeated previous statements from CEO Michael de Rosen that the operator is much more looking to Asia for any expansion prospects.
Meanwhile Intelsat itself is stressing that the complex financial restructuring currently underway does not have any effect on their bid for Telesat’s assets, either financial or in order to avoid anti-trust challenges.
Intelsat’s reorganisation, which includes a re-location of the licences held by Intelsat’s subsidiary companies. Separately, a report in Satellite Finance, states that Dan Goldberg, Telesat’s CEO, is said to be in favour of an Intelsat purchase.
