Portugal Telecom and Huawei test IPTV 3D
October 28, 2010
Portugal Telecom and Huawei have jointly completed the first 10G-GPON trial in Europe by demonstrating IPTV Meo service and 3DTV using the new 10G-PON system (MA 5600T platform) provided by Huawei.
The standardised 10G-PON system can achieve 10Gb/s downstream bandwidth and 2.5Gb/s upstream bandwidth for future high bandwidth demanding video services, such as 3DTV. The demonstration, which in the near future will be made available to end users, shows the evolutionary capabilities of the complete network solution that Portugal Telecom is implementing in Portugal to support its Meo service.
Portugal Telecom is building one of Europe’s largest GPON FTTH networks, covering more than 1 million households.
