Samsung: Glasses free 3D soon a fantasy
October 14, 2010
Samsung Electronics is pouring cold water in Toshiba’s assertion there will soon be glasses free 3D. It has said that being able to view 3D TVs without glasses won’t be possible in the next five to ten years because of technical issues.
“The first challenge (for 3D TVs) is the inconvenience of wearing glasses,” said Samsung Electronics Visual Display President B.K. Yoon. “I believe that this will be possible on cell phones and other mobile devices, or monitors that require smaller displays…but supplying 3D TV without glasses will not be (available) in the next five to ten years.”
Yoon also said the second challenge for 3D sets will be the lack of content.
