Taiwan Mobile to buy Carlyle's Kbro

Taiwan Mobile, the country's second-largest phone carrier, has agreed to buy cable television operator Kbro rom Carlyle Group for $1 billion in stock and cash to become the market leader.
Taiwan Mobile's plans to use its cable television business, its fastest-growing division, to boost revenue from so-called convergence services that combine phone, Internet and television. The transaction will raise its share of the cable television market from 6.6 per cent to 32 per cent, with almost 1.6 million customers, making it the industry's largest provider.
