Ofcom warns over content
December 30, 2007
UK media regulator Ofcom has issued a warning to broadcasters over user-generated content after ruling against two clips screened by Sumo TV. Ofcom said it was concerned that some TV channels were putting too much responsibility for complying with its broadcasting code on the creators of user-generated clips rather than performing sufficient checks themselves.
The warning came as Ofcom warned Sumo for two clips broadcast on its Sky digital channel in July last year. One of the clips featured an expletive-strewn rap, while the other showed a child being “deliberately distressed” by an adult.
